American biotechnology company Moderna announced on the 25th local time that its Corona 19 vaccine has also been effective in preventing mutant viruses that have occurred in the UK and South Africa respectively.
In an experiment with blood samples that were immune to Corona 19 by inoculating its own vaccine twice, Modena revealed that it produced neutralizing antibodies capable of neutralizing Corona 19 even to mutant viruses in the UK and South Africa and showed immunity.
Modena said, however, that in the case of the South African mutant virus, the neutralizing antibody production rate is only about one-sixth of the normal level, and the immunity is likely to weaken faster.
According to this, Modena plans to inject another injection in addition to the existing two times in order to further increase the immunity of COVID-19, or to develop a new vaccine specialized for the South African mutant virus and launch a clinical trial.
