[국제]Japan, Fukushima nuclear power plant, growing distrust

[앵커]

For the first time in two years, radioactive substances above the standard were identified in fish caught off the coast of Fukushima.

Nuclear power plants, which were said to have no problems after this earthquake, have recently been discovered one after another, increasing distrust about safety.

Tokyo correspondent Lee Gyeong-ah reports.

Tokyo Electric Power, the operator of the Fukushima nuclear power plant, explained the damage to the extent that water was slightly overflowing from the tank storing spent nuclear fuel immediately after the earthquake.

However, the earthquake did not stop there.

It was only confirmed eight days after the earthquake that the internal pressure in the reactor containment vessel, which had been maintained at a certain level to prevent the hydrogen explosion, fell.

In containment vessels with melted nuclear fuel, the coolant escaped and the water level was also found to have dropped to a maximum of 70 cm.

The facts that were not originally disclosed were also revealed.

The earthquake was not recorded because the seismometer in the nuclear power plant was broken.

Criticism was poured out as the belated disclosure of information revealed poor management.

Cesium, a radioactive substance that was more than five times the standard value, was detected in a bullock caught off Fukushima.

This is the first time in two years that radioactive materials have been released beyond the standard in local seafood.

The Japanese government has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the measures taken by countries around the world, including Korea, which have banned the import of Fukushima seafood.

Ten years after the worst nuclear accident.

The ensuing problems overshadow the Japanese claim that there is nothing wrong with safety.
