The first vaccination was given as soon as the emergency use of the COVID-19 vaccine was approved in Brazil.
The National Sanitation Bureau of the Ministry of Health of Brazil held a public board meeting on the 17th local time to approve the emergency use of the Chinese Synovac and UK AstraZeneca vaccines.
This is the first time that a vaccine has been approved for emergency use in Brazil since the coronavirus outbreak.
The vaccines approved for emergency use on this day are 6 million doses imported from Synovac and 2 million doses planned to be imported from AstraZeneca.
The first vaccination was given at the University of Sao Paulo Medical School Hospital on the same day as soon as the approval of the National Hygiene Authority was granted.
