[국제]About 600 mass shootings in US this year… Biden ‘needs bigger action’

[앵커]

With more than 600 mass shootings in the US this year alone, it’s likely to be the second-worst year on record.

President Biden has promised to take greater steps, but he can’t help but emphasize that the United States, which has been overwhelmed by gun violence and political division, is not like an advanced country.

On the night of the 22nd local time, a shooting occurred in a Walmart store in Virginia, killing six people and wounding four others.

Four days earlier, a shooting at an LGBTQ club in Colorado left 30 people dead.

At least 24 people have been killed and 37 injured in gun violence in seven states in the past week alone.

In a statement before Thanksgiving, President Biden condemned the mass shootings and stressed the need for greater action on gun control laws.

President Biden had previously ordered the White House to raise the flag early during a Texas elementary school shooting in May, and signed the gun control bill into law in June.

However, when the shooting didn’t stop, the victim’s father protested to his face during the related event.

According to the nonprofit Archives of Gun Violence in the United States, there have been at least 607 mass shootings in the United States since 22 this year.

If current trends continue, this year’s mass shootings are likely to be the second worst year on record, after last year.

The UK’s Financial Times has long emphasized that the US is like an emerging country rather than an advanced country, superimposing extreme political divisions and economic volatility surrounding abortion rights, etc.
