On November 16, 2018 at 11:51 p.m. a 21-year-old from Mainz drove the BAB 61 in his car towards Ludwigshafen. At the entrance to the construction site in front of the Gau-Bickelheim junction, there was a serious traffic accident that was fatal for the 21-year-old. Two lanes separate at the entrance to the construction site. The right lane runs on the hard shoulder, the left lane runs on the actual oncoming lane. At the level of the division of the two lanes, the 21-year-old from Mainz was driving straight ahead via a warning beacon for reasons that have not yet been clarified, presumably due to excessive speed. He then crashed into the floor element of a partition, lifted off slightly with the vehicle and bumped into a road roller parked there in the blocked construction site area. The impact caused the car to be heavily depressed right up to the rear of the vehicle. The driver died at the scene of the accident. The recovery was difficult because the car was wedged into one another with the working machine. The highway had to be blocked in the south direction. There was a backflow.
