Ending 2020, Xiaomi introduced for the first time the latest version of its custom layer: MIUI 12.5. Later in February, the company revealed the global version of the system. This intermediate and preparatory version for the future MIUI 13 arrives with a clear central objective: optimization and lightness. The company has taken note of user comments asking better optimization and performance in its interface.

Recently, the deployment of MIUI 12.5 in its stable version started in the Chinese market. It is expected that it will soon reach up to 28 devices of the brand, according to what we saw in the first official list released by the company. However, they have now decided extend this support to some older flagship models.

Through a post on Weibo, the Xiaomi executive, Zhang Guoquan, has confirmed that MIUI 12.5 will also make its arrival to devices such as the flagship phone series Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi MIX 2S y Xiaomi Mi MIX 3. For those who do not remember, the terminals in question were launched in 2018.

Xiaomi extends MIUI 12.5 support to Mi 8, MIX 3 and MIX 2S

In his publication, the company’s top executive reveals that the company’s engineers have been working on MIUI 12.5 optimization for Snapdragon 845 chipset, which is present in the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S y Mi MIX 3. As a reminder, the MIX 3 was launched with MIUI 10, while the MIX 2S came with MIUI 9 as standard.

Therefore, MIUI 12.5 will be the fourth major MIUI update for the MIX 2S, while the MIX 3 will receive it as a third major MIUI update. Today there are many users who still use these devices that were high-end in their day, so it is a good thing for the company to support them with a longer support.

Continuing, Zhang clarified that, along with older MIX devices, the Xiaomi Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer Edition you will also receive the corresponding update. These models got their last major MIUI 12 update in July and August 2020, respectively.

At the moment, the date of deployment of the update for the devices mentioned above is uncertain. But, it is quite likely that they are located in the last batch. Zhang says the update will come a bit later after the company finalizes pending projects and makes sure the trial version is bug-free. So, let’s not expect OTA in the short term.
