One would like to forego this trend from America. We’re talking about “Porch Piracy”. So-called veranda piracy, i.e. the theft of parcels left in front of the door, is a widespread phenomenon in the USA that is now spreading in Germany as well. How a surveillance camera can deter pirates.

An opened parcel, an envelope with no contents and a parcel that never arrives – all consumers have probably had problems with delivery services at some point. Recently, there has been an increasing number of lost letters and thefts in the mail. One reason for this is the booming online trade in Germany: Both companies and consumers are ordering more goods over the Internet.

Compared to the USA, the people in Germany are doing well. A survey commissioned by the technology company Canary and carried out by YouGov found that almost one in five Americans has been or knows a victim of parcel theft. According to the survey, one in three Americans would restrict their online shopping behavior if there were door pirates in the neighborhood. In this case, more than 30 percent of those surveyed would buy a security camera.

So that such problems do not arise in this country, recipients of mail can take preventive action. A surveillance camera such as that offered by the Smartfrog & Canary Group can not only deter potential intruders, but also package thieves. Modern WiFi cameras have motion detectors, alarm functions, microphones and loudspeakers and can be installed within a few minutes. As soon as something moves, the user receives a notification on his smartphone. Whether Canary Pro, Canary View or Canary Flex: All three Canary models deliver sharp videos in HD quality – even in the dark thanks to automatic night vision.
