At 11:53 p.m., a caller to the Düren district control center reported a fire in the forest in the area of Hundsleyweg. On site it turned out that it was the fire of two weekend houses in the forest above the street “im Hag”. A weekend house was already burning to the full extent, the fire spread to another weekend house. The forest that reached the two buildings was immediately endangered. The two buildings are approx. 50 m high and can only be reached via a narrow staircase.
The fire brigade was already waiting for the resident of the building and was uninjured. Immediately, an extinguishing attack was initiated, partly under respiratory protection, and further forces were alerted. In order to have sufficient extinguishing water available, a water supply to the Rur was built over a distance of around 500 m.
The extinguishing and post-extinguishing work took several hours, a fire guard remained at the site until around 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
The fire brigade cannot give any information about the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage, the police have started their investigation.
About 120 firefighters were deployed.
City of Nideggen: Extinguishing groups evening, Berg, Embken-Muldenau, Nideggen, Schmidt and Wollersheim as well as the catering group. Fire protection center Düren district, Johaniter Unfallhilfe Düren as well as the Kreuzau and Hürtgenwald fire brigades who ensured basic protection and supported their comrades from Nideggen with respirators.
