Frankfurt am Main, March 2021. The project and area developer BPD (Bouwfonds Immobilienentwicklung) has acquired an area of ​​around 18,000 m2 in Ehrenkirchen near Freiburg. A new residential quarter with more than 130 residential units and around 13,000 m2 of living space as well as a commercial unit for local supply is to be built on the property in the Kirchhofen district. The area in Offnadinger Straße is a conversion area that was previously used by a logistics company.

The planned residential units are spread across 15 apartment buildings. Approximately 1,000 m² of living space are planned as subsidized living space in accordance with the provisions of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Three to four of the multi-family houses are to be built in a resource-saving manner with sustainable building materials in wood construction. A greening of the roofs and a sustainable energy concept with photovoltaic systems and a central block-type thermal power station are also being considered. The new residential area is also to have a central square and a children’s playground. The mobility concept envisages keeping the new quarter largely car-free; there are almost only parking spaces in an underground car park.

By the end of 2021, a project-related development plan will be developed on the basis of an urban planning concept by Höfler + Stoll Architects from Heitersheim. BPD expects the process to be completed and sales to start for the residential units in mid-2022.

Gudula Nieke, head of the Freiburg regional office of the BPD Stuttgart branch, says: “The new quarter on the former freight forwarding site will have an impact on the future development of the Kirchhofen district – early involvement of the citizens is very important in the planning. We want to implement a sustainable and socially diverse project that takes the needs of future residents into account. ”

The 7,500-inhabitant community Ehrenkirchen is south of Freiburg im Breisgau in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district. Ehrenkirchen is connected to national traffic via the nearby federal highway 3 and the Rhine Valley Railway.
