The UN Security Council should impose global arms export bans and economic sanctions on Myanmar’s military, a senior UN human rights investigator said.
Thomas Andrews, a UN special investigator on the human rights situation in Myanmar, urged the Myanmar military to murder or illegally arrest protesters after the coup.
Investigator Andrews argued that countries around the world should impose sanctions on Myanmar’s oil and gas companies, which have become the military’s largest source of income.
It also stated that the allegations of cruelty raised should be handed over to the International Criminal Court for investigation.
