The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, NATO, the European Union and the EU said they would further deepen their cooperative relationship, saying security threats and strategic competition are intensifying.
This is the first time that a specific country, such as Russia and China, has been specifically specified in a joint statement.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, EU Council President Charles Michel and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen signed a joint statement at NATO headquarters.
As Russia’s war in Ukraine escalates, NATO and the EU have vowed to step up cooperation, saying Europe and Atlantic security face “the greatest threat”.

Today’s joint statement is the third since NATO and the EU cooperated seriously some 20 years ago.
Based on the 2018 joint statement, which was shortly before, it was announced in five years.
It is the first time in history that a specific country, such as Russia and China, is specifically specified in the three joint declarations.

The Joint Statement also noted that China’s growing arbitrariness and policies present challenges we must address.
A total of 30 countries are members of NATO, including the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Of the 27 EU countries, 21 are members of NATO and of the remaining six countries, Sweden and Finland are currently in the process of joining NATO.
If the two countries join NATO, NATO will be responsible for the defense of 96% of the EU population, and the West vs.
