At least 16 people have died as a winter storm with heavy rain and high winds hit California for the third straight week.

An emergency evacuation order has been issued for tens of thousands of residents, but landslide concerns are growing as land in California has become vulnerable from drought and wildfires.

Two vehicles crashed into pits as roads weakened by heavy rain collapsed.

A winter storm with heavy rain and high winds hits California, USA, killing many people.

In areas of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties north of Los Angeles, water bombs measuring more than 400 mm were dropped.

Streets in downtown and Beverly Hills were also flooded and power was cut to hundreds of thousands of California homes.

The water crisis that started in late December last year continued for three weeks and the damages grew like a snowball.

As major California rivers rise to dangerous levels, disaster response authorities have issued flood warnings for more than tens of millions of residents.

Flood warnings have been issued for the northern Sacramento Valley, Monterey Bay, and the entire San Francisco Bay area.

Tens of thousands of people living in landslide-prone areas have been ordered to evacuate.

Concerns are growing that torrential rains will add to the damage at a time when droughts and wildfires in recent years have left California’s soil vulnerable.

Experts attribute the storm to the so-called “atmospheric river” phenomenon.

A large amount of water vapor moves in a narrow and long band like a river and produces heavy rains.

Meteorologists estimated property damage from the storm at about 1.2 trillion won.

Through the 19th, more than 170 mm of rain is falling in many areas of California, and even greater damage is expected in the northern part of the country with a huge cyclone.
