▷ POL-NE: Fire in residential building causes death

On August 1st, 2020, around 5:24 a.m., the district control center reported a fire in a residential building on Kantstrasse in Meerbusch-Büderich. The first emergency services discovered a fire on the 6th floor of the 9-storey residential building. Fire-fighting measures and rescue and evacuation measures for the residents were therefore initiated by the fire brigade. The area was cordoned off extensively by the police. A 72-year-old resident who was found lifeless died despite on-site resuscitation measures. 12 other people had to receive medical treatment on site. Six of them were subsequently taken to nearby hospitals, some of them seriously injured. The evacuated residents and relatives were looked after by the fire brigade and rescue workers. The blocking measures were lifted around 9:00 a.m. In the further course, the majority of the residents were allowed to return to their apartments. The residents of the apartments, which were currently uninhabitable due to the effects of the fire, were housed elsewhere by the city of Meerbusch. The criminal police have started investigations into the cause of the fire. (st)
