Man tries to set fire to house in Braga and attacks firefighter who went to put out fire

The works of the first phase of the requalification of Variante da Encosta, which connects to the University of Minho, in Braga, start on Monday and last for about three months, the municipality said today.

In a statement, the Chamber of Braga clarifies that the first phase of the work focuses on “the section between the southern entrance of the University of Minho (roundabout) and the junction of Avenida dos Lusíadas with Avenida D. João II”.

Automobile circulation on that section will be conditioned during the intervention, which has an expected execution time of 90 days, adds the municipality.

Plan for the requalification of the Variante da Encosta in Braga

These works are part of the “comprehensive rehabilitation of Variante da Encosta, along the axis formed by Avenidas D. João II, Alfredo Barros and dos Lusíadas, as well as their connection to the University of Minho”, he describes.

The complete work has an execution period of “one year”, divided into five intervention phases, “between the roundabout for access to UMinho and the roundabout for connection to EN 309 (Estrada da Falperra).

The investment, of three million euros, is financed by the Northern Regional Operational Program – NORTE 2020.

The Chamber clarifies that the intervention intends to “improve pedestrian circulation conditions, with the creation of new pedestrian crossings, reformulation of the design of roundabouts.

In addition to this, “traffic calming measures aiming at humanizing public space, reducing the primacy of the automobile and promoting soft modes”.
